Operating Instructions and Installation

Our Engineers are at disposal of designers and end-users for assistance and advice, ainsi que pour valider la meilleure adéquation entre notre produit et chaque application.

1. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR LAYOUT DESIGN

Standard Gas Springs should de installed with the rod pointing downward. Please contact us for other mounting layouts :horizontal position, rod pointing upward …

Gas Springs are design to bear axial loads only. Consequently any side load forces should be avoided. Specifically when Gas Springs are equipped with clevis end fittings, special attention should be paid to design of connecting shafts in order to provide appropriated clearance (according to each application). As an indication only,we would advise:0.3 to 0.5 mm clearance on shafts diameter and 0.5 to 1.0 mm clearance on each side of the clevis.

The rod should be protected from particle blastings.

When possible, Gas Springs should not be used at their maximum rating. .

Please contact us when Gas Springs have to be working in corrosive environment or outside with the rod in extended position.

2. HANDLING RECOMMENDATIONS

Original quality of the rod surface finish is a key condition to provide the required good seal tightness. Consequently:

Make sure to avoid pollution of the rod surface by glue, putty, adhesives, corrosive products, paint.

When the cylinder has to be repainted,be careful to protect the rod (solvents should not be used to clean the rod in order to avoid damaging the seal).

Protect the rod from blows ,shocks, sparks from electric arc or grinding machines.

Never grip the rod with pliers or in a vice without using efficient protective lead, aluminium or copper jaws.

Be careful to heating effect of Infrared devices ( 80 °C maximum allowed temperature).

3. OPERATING CONDITIONS

Operating temperature range :from -30 °C to + 80 °C.

Working cycles per minute :maximum quantity of 6 full reciprocating strokes. For higher rates, please contact us.

Endurance behaviour based on 30.000 working cycles test :15%maximum performance loss (test actual results will vary according to stroke length and nominal force value).

Nominal data are given for 20 °C reference temperature.
For each step of 3 °C ,forces variation is 1%.

For example :F1 nominal force of 500 N (at 20 °C )
will become 525 N at + 35 °C
and 440 N at -16 °C .

4. STORAGE BEFORE USE

Gas Springs may be stored horizontally, with approx.20 °C ambient temperature, during three months.

For longer storage periods, units should be stored vertically with rod pointing downward.

For hot climates and/or high humidity, please contact us.

5. WARRANTY

Gas Springs are guaranteed for one year from the date-code marked on the cylinder
(for example ‘'323/99 ‘'date-code means :day 323 of 1999 year =19 Nov.1999 ).

When the cylinder has to be repainted, the original date-code should still appear for the guarantee to remain valid.

Usually, warranty will be cancelled when our instructions are not followed.

Without detailed specifications supplied to us at enquiry stage and our specific written agreement, our Gas Springs will not be guaranteed for special applications involving vibrations, magnetic fields, stray currents or intense accidental loads.

This list is not limited and we draw customers attention on how important it is to supply us with accurate and complete specifications (loads, position, working conditions …) at enquiry stage in order to select/offer the right Gas Spring type for each application.

6. SCRAPPING

Gas Springs inner pressure ranges from 20 to 250 bars.
Consequently Gas Springs should be depressurized before scrapping.

For safety reasons, please apply the following procedure:

- Clamp loosely the cylinder in a vice.

- Slit the cylinder crosswise in an area located between 30 and 35mm from the cylinder end (fitting side).

FOR THIS OPERATION:

1- WEAR SAFETY GLASSES
2- Use a metal cutting hand saw
3- During cutting, cover the saw blade with a rag

Stop sawing as soon as hearing a hissing sound.

The unit is completely degassed when the rod can be hand moved freely.

7. ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

The self-contained gas (Nitrogen )is a neutral component of the atmosphere.
Consequently,gas release is totally safe.

The Gas Spring other components, except the oil,are mainly steels so recycling of these components is similar to steel recycling.

Les autres constituants (hormis l'huile) sont principalement des aciers. L'élimination de ces constituants est assimilable au recyclage de l'acier.

To avoid pollution, used oil should be collected according to specific industrial waste regulations of each country.
